Following the recent flooding caused by torrential rains in some parts of the Northern Cape Province drownings are a concern during the current summer months. The SAPS are requesting that the following water safety hints be adhered to.
*Most rivers and dams are filled to capacity and beyond therefore persons are cautioned against these very dangerous actions.
*Persons are also warned to stay away from water holes, pool drains and canals.
*Do not jump into water to save a friend, rather call for professional help.
*Parents should always know the whereabouts of their children.
*Supervise children when they are in the water.
*Do not play breath-holding games
*Always wear a life vest when learning to swim.
*Never swim under the influence of alcohol, strong medication or drug
*Enter water feet first.
*Never leave buckets or baths filled with water unsupervised when small children are around.
