Suspects arrested for possession of prohibited firearms

Efforts to keep our province safe and to eradicate the possession of unlicensed firearms yielded positive results when members of the Provincial Extortion Task Team arrested a 27-year-old suspect for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition in Spreeu Street, Hopland Langebaan yesterday, 28 December 2021. The members received information on a firearm at the premises and followed up on the information. The premises were searched and an AK 47 automatic rifle with ammunition was confiscated.

The suspect is due to make a court appearance today, 29 December 2021 in the Vredenburg Magistrates Court on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter members of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested two suspects aged 17 and 24 for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition in Klipfontein Road, Athlone in the early hours of this morning. The members were busy with stop and search operations when they stopped a vehicle. They searched the vehicle and found a .38 special revolver with ammunition under the front seat.

The suspects are due to make a court appearance in Athlone Magistrates court on Friday, 31 December 2021 on the, mentioned charges.
