On Tuesday, 28 December 2021, members of the Gauteng Highway Patrol arrested a 44-year-old suspect in Noordgesig (Soweto) and recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The arrest emanated after Gauteng Highway Patrol received information of a shooting in progress and immediately proceeded to the identified location in Noordgesig. It is alleged that the suspect shot randomly and killed a dog in the process.
On arrival of the SAPS members, the suspect attempted to evade arrest but he was swiftly apprehended. A search was conducted whereby police seized an unlicensed 12 Gauge shotgun, a 9mm pistol, and ammunition that was found in possession of the suspect.
The suspect is facing charges of discharging a firearm in a municipal area, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and ammunition.
