Efforts to make our communities safe landed on a 30-year-old male behind bars for possession of three unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Members of the Vredenburg Cluster Reaction Unit followed up information of firearms at premises in Ascot Street Long Acres, Langebaan. The premises were searched and the members found two Taurus .38 special revolvers with ammunition in a safe and a .22 revolver hidden in a printer.
The suspect made a court appearance today in Hopefield Magistrates court.
In an unrelated matter, the Hermanus Crime Prevention Unit arrested two suspects on a charge of tampering with infrastructure. The members received a complaint that a Vodacom Communication tower in Vermont was activated. The suspects fled the scene when they saw police approaching. After two hours the suspects returned to the tower and were arrested.
Once charged the suspects will appear in Hermanus Magistrates court on the mentioned charge.
