More than one million Rands worth of illicit cigarettes confiscated by SANDF

More than one million Rands worth of illicit goods, including illicit cigarettes and a mini-bus taxi, have been confiscated by the South African National Defence Force members of 4 Artillery Regiment deployed along the South Africa/Zimbabwe border over the weekend.

The Gunners deployed under Operation CORONA in Limpopo, were busy with mobile patrols in the early hours of the morning when they came across a mini-bus traveling at night without registration numbers.

The Potchefstroom-based Unit in the North West Province, flagged for the vehicle to stop. The suspect (driver) jumped out of the moving vehicle and was disappeared into the night.

The vehicle and its luggage were handed over to the South African Revenue Service/CUSTOMS. The vehicle was estimated to be R450 000.00, whereas the illicit cigarettes were valued at R803 677.00. The total amount was R 1,253, 677.00.
