Two sisters aged 21 and 10 were rescued by the public from their burning home on Katsura Drive in Trenance Park, Verulam.
According to residents in the area, they heard the two females screaming for assistance when they noticed the house engulfed in flames. With the use of a step ladder, residents managed to rescue the sisters who sought refuge on the upper level of their home.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance. On arrival, the siblings were located on a neighboring property. They were treated on scene by Medics for smoke inhalation. The Ethekwini Fire Department has extinguished the blaze which caused extensive damage to the house.
The cause of the fire is suspected to be related to an electrical fault, however, this could not be confirmed.
