Suspect to appear in court for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

A 25-year-old suspect is expected to appear on Monday, 14 February 2022, before the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect is also facing an additional charge of contravention of Section 49(1)(a) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No. 13 of 2002).

The illicit mining task team members were conducting crime-combatting patrols at Napestad, Stilfontein on Thursday, 10 February 2022, when they received information about an armed man. The members went to the shop where the man was seen, but he allegedly ran away when he saw the police officers. A chase ensued as a result. The suspect was in the process seen dropping a firearm.

He was eventually arrested and a 9mm pistol, as well as 13 ammunition, were confiscated.
