A 60-year-old male was seriously injured after he was run over by a champagne Toyota Yaris on Belvedere Drive in Belvedere, Tongaat.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Center received multiple calls from the public reporting the accident. Some callers informed the controller on duty that the pedestrian was trapped under the vehicle.
The RUSA Robinson R44 Helicopter lifted off from Verulam, KZN with Medics on board and routed to the scene. On arrival, the patient was being treated by Paramedics from a private ambulance service.
According to the driver of the Toyota Yaris, she was traveling down Belvedere Drive when she avoided a silver GWM Steed bakkie. Her vehicle left its path of travel and drove over the pedestrian on the opposite side of the road.
The seriously injured male was stabilized on the scene before being transported to the hospital by ambulance.
