On Saturday 12 February 2022 at about 09:00 the off-duty member of Public Order Police Unit Bloemfontein received information about a suspicious vehicle seen in Bloemside 2 area. The Sergeant quickly mobilised the members that were on duty and on arrival they followed up the information.
The team arrived where the vehicle was standing and preliminary investigation started. The vehicle was tested and it was not reported stolen. It did not have the registration numbers and the battery was also taken off. Whilst the police were busy the 28-year-old African male arrived and he gave the police false information regarding the vehicle ownership.
Further investigation led the police to a house in Segupi Street, Batho Location. Two sets of registration number plates were found at the house. The suspect was questioned and he gave the police more information to follow.
The police followed this additional information to Warren Street in Erlichpark where the other 28-year-old housebreaking and theft suspect was arrested. The team was also able to recover a Samsung Microwave oven which was stolen in Groenderoot Street and was already sold by the two suspects in Bloemfontein Central Business District.
The two 28-year-old suspects were arrested and two cases; one of possession of suspected stolen vehicle in Bloemspruit Police Station and the other of housebreaking and theft in Mangaung Police Station were opened. The suspects will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Monday 14 February 2022.
