Police investigate gruesome murders of cousins and uncle

Police in Mothotlung is investigating three counts of murder. This came after a 31-year-old uncle collected two children; a six-year-old girl and four-year-old boy, from their home in Extension 1, Mothotlung at about 18:00 on Wednesday, 16 February 2022, to buy them food.

When the children, who are cousins, did not return home, the mothers became worried and a missing person’s report was opened on Thursday, 17 February 2022 at about 01:15, at the local police, leading to an immediate search by the police and members of the community.

The uncle was successfully traced by the community members, who without informing the police, allegedly interrogated and assaulted him. As a result, he pointed out the children’s bodies that were found in the bushes, behind a church between Extension 1 and 2, with throats allegedly slit with a sharp object. Subsequent to the gruesome discovery, members of the community took the law into their own hands by allegedly killing and setting alight the uncle at about 10:00 today.

Investigation into the matter continues and the area is currently calm. Police request anyone with information that can assist in the investigation to contact the Investigating Officer, Warrant Officer Job Lehabe on 082 ‪‪373 9814.
