Members of the Trio Crime Task Team in Vhembe District arrested four suspects aged between 25 and 34 in connection with a series of business robberies and carjacking cases that were reported at Tshaulu and Thohoyandou during February 2022.
On 16 February 2022, members operationalized information about the vehicle that was used to commit a robbery at Tshaulu that was parked at a local fuel station in Sebasa. The team followed up on all the leads and traced the suspects at their residential area in Maniini and Tshisele villages, Thohoyandou Unit E, Sibasa, and Thohoyandou Unit P East.
The four suspects were arrested and positively linked to three business robberies at Tshaulu and two of these suspects aged 25 and 34 were linked to the Thohoyandou robbery and carjacking incident that occurred also during February 2022.
Police also recovered a vehicle, a white Toyota Yaris.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the members for their swift response and also thanked community members for continuously assisting the Police in the fight against crime.
The possibility that the suspects might be linked with other cases in the Vhembe District cannot be ruled out. Police investigations are continuing. More arrests are expected, these suspects might be linked with other cases at the District as Police investigations unfold.
The suspects will soon appear in the local Magistrate’s Court.
