The partnership between Atlantis police and their communities proved to yield positive results when information received from the community led to the arrest of a 33-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Monday, 21 February 2022. Atlantis Crime Prevention Unit received information of a firearm at premises in Heron’s Place, Robinvale, Atlantis, and operationalized the information. The premises were searched and a 9mm pistol with ammunition was confiscated.
Meanwhile, police members of the Maitland Flying Squad responded to information relating to drugs at an identified address in Gugulethu on Tuesday, 22 February 2022. Upon arrival, they searched the address and found mandrax tablets to the value of R138 500 hidden in the dwelling. A 50-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of drugs.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Atlantis and Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
