Criminals in the Western Cape are feeling the presence of the police as suspects are arrested in possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition

Vigilance displayed by members of Milnerton police resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and possession of stolen property on Wednesday, 23 February 2022 in Du noon. The members were busy with patrols when they noticed three males walking in the road who upon noticing the police vehicle, started to run. The suspects were chased and one suspect was apprehended and searched by the members. A 9mm pistol with no serial number with ammunition and seven cellphones were found in his possession.

In an unrelated incident, members of the Provincial Extortion Task Team pursued information which led them to an address in Site B, Khayelitsha. Upon searching the residence, they found a 9mm pistol and various assorted rounds of ammunition hidden in a black cooler box. A 39-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

The suspects are due to appear in Cape Town and Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court respectively on Monday, 28 February 2022.
