The occupants of the vehicle are being sought after they robbed a man for R2500 in cash. The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Verulam Operations Center received a call from a resident of Tangerine Street in Trenance Park – KZN at approximately 11:17 requesting assistance after learning that her partner had been robbed at gunpoint by a contractor in the parking lot of a hardware store in Phoenix, KZN. The caller explained that two employees of the construction company were still on their property.

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the premises. On arrival it was established that the victim sought the services of a company advertising precast houses and walls after viewing an advert on Facebook (picture 5). She communicated with a person named Jacob Mussa (picture 2) who provided a quotation to build a room with an en-suite in her back yard. Arrangements were made to start the building after she accepted the quote.

This morning (Friday), the contractor and his partner arrived at the property with two of their employees. They requested R2500 as a deposit to purchase building material. The victim’s boyfriend proceeded with two Malawian nationals in their vehicle to a hardware business in Phoenix, KZN where he was expected to pay for the material. She managed to photograph the vehicle and the suspect prior to them leaving.

As they drove into the parking lot of the hardware store, one of the suspects produced a firearm and robbed the victim for the cash. They then asked him to exit the vehicle before they drove off.
Reaction Officers patrolling in Phoenix, KZN located the man and transported back to Verulam. Officers interviewed the two employees who remained on the property. They stated that they were seated on the corner of Sunford Drive in Phoenix, KZN this morning when they were approached by the foreign nationals who offered them temporary employment. They agreed and were transported to the victim’s home. The robbers provided them with spades and asked them to level the yard while they purchased material to start the foundation. They then left with the victim.

Both individuals were handed over to the South African Police for further investigation.
