In ongoing efforts to curb incidents of gang violence currently plaguing the Manenberg community, Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) members embarked on intelligence-driven operations on Tuesday evening in identified hotspots.
After 23:00, on Plate Street between Rio Primary School and Ruth Court, the AGU members on foot patrol came under fire from unknown suspects. They fired back and pursued the suspects who ran to Wendy’s house. As a consequence, two suspects were arrested and a stolen firearm with ammunition was seized. The firearm was reportedly stolen in Windhoek, Namibia.
The suspects aged 23 and 33 will appear in court on possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, attempted murder, and attack on police charges.
On Tuesday, 15 March 2022 at about 18:30, members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit were busy with patrols in the Lavender Hill area when they heard gunshots close by. The members drove in the direction of the sound when they noticed two males running, and they pursued them. The one suspect ran into a yard where he started shooting at police members who were close behind him. The suspect was then apprehended in St Simon Road, St Montague Village with a 9mm pistol with ammunition in his possession.
Once charged the suspect will make a court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, attempted murder, and attack on police.
