Four men arrested in possession of suspected stolen items

Transporting a Television became a bad idea for four men who were arrested in Maokeng on Wednesday, 16 March 2022 at about 07:00. The arrest was effected by Maokeng SAPS members during a Vehicle Control Point (VCP) manned next to Boitumelo Regional Hospital.

The members led by Capt Daniel Motsoeneng stopped one of the motor vehicles, a red Toyota Conquest to search it. It had four male passengers including a driver. He then requested for the driver’s license which he did not have in his possession. While issuing a fine, Captain Motsoeneng then realized there was a plasma TV at the back seat.

On further questioning about the TV the suspect said it is his. Capt Motsoeneng told him to drive with them to his home to show proof of documentation to ownership of this property. As they were on the way the, one of the man told Capt Motsoeneng that the TV is one of the stolen items. He further disclosed that the other items are at Zuma Park, in Maokeng. The address in Zuma Park was visited and more items believed to be stolen were found and recovered by the police.

Maokeng SAPS opened a case of possession of suspected stolen property. The four suspects aged 30, 32, 44 and 50 were arrested. The motor vehicle was also confiscated as it was used in the commission of a crime. Other items seized were a plasma TV, lawn mower, sound mixer and about seven (7) bottles of alcohol. These suspected stolen items were linked to a business burglary case that was reported in Kroonstad a day ago. The four suspects are expected to appear in Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 17 March 2022.
