On Wednesday, 16 March 2022 at about 15:50, a three-year-old girl, Khazima Dweni, and her sister were playing in the yard of their neighbors in Magxaki Street, Kwazakele. She picked up an electrical wire (the illegal connection between neighbours) that was on the ground and was electrocuted in the process.
On emergency medical assistance arrival, she was declared deceased.
Her family then disconnected the wire.
It is with empathy that police attended the scene, and the SAPS wish to caution homeowners/tenants not to make illegal connections to municipal electricity supply grids on their own. This practice is dangerous not only to the persons affecting the connection but also to innocent persons such as this three-year-old girl that passed away due to these unsafe illegal connections.
An inquest case was opened at Kwazakele SAPS.
