Two men arrested, five unlicensed firearms recovered and cigarettes worth R250 000 confiscated

In an effort to recover and seize unlicensed firearms, the collection of intelligence information plays a critical role in ensuring that crime prevention operations are yielding positive results, as yesterday’s intelligence-driven operation led to the recovery of five unlicensed firearms, cigarettes worth around R250 000.00 and two men were nabbed from a house in Port St Johns.

On Tuesday morning, 15 March 2022, members from Public Order Policing in possession of a search warrant immediately operationalised the intelligence information and pounced on the premises in Beach Road, which was said to be keeping illegal firearms in Port St Johns. From the first suspect, police recovered two unlicensed firearms with ammunition, a laptop and cigarettes that are worth around R250 000.00. The second suspect was found in possession of three unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The male suspects aged 43 and 44 will appear in the Port St John’s Magistrate’s court on Thursday, 17 March 2022 on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property.
