The continuous commitment and dedication by senior officers, officers and members of the Joe Gqabi District to keep our communities safe and secure yield several positive results.
Members participated as from the start of the weekend in several activities of “Operation Vhuthu Hawe”.
Activities included the policing of problematic taverns and shebeens, drugs, drunken driving, stop and search for illegal possession of fire-arms and dangerous weapons. Compliance enforcement, high visibility blue light patrols, prevention of contact and priority crimes and roadblocks.
The DOCC (District operational command center) team supported other stations in the District and had the following successes:
At Steynsburg a suspect was arrested with mandrax tablets and cash.
During their crime prevention activities in KatKop they followed up information of a suspect that were dealing in drugs and selling Liquor without a licence at Mdeni Locality. He was arrested in possession of mandrax tablets and the Liquor confiscated.
At Mount Fletcher during the early morning hours a 19-year-old suspect was arrested at Nkululekweni with 52 parcels of dagga, 25 mandrax tablets in different sizes and 10 parcels of tik all to the value of R5000-00.
Barkly East members followed up information and closed down an unlicensed Liqour outlet and a fine was issued.
Aliwal North and Maletswai SAPS members together with the K9 also managed to identify and close down two illegal shebeens. Fines were issued and the Liquor confiscated.
In the Burgersdorp area a roadblock was held together with the traffic department. Fines to the value of R 109 000-00 were issued for expired licence disc, no drivers licence, overload and tyres.
During the operation at Sterkspruit members managed to arrest a suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm with 28 rounds and confiscated dangerous weapons (knifes) during their stop and search.
