The relentless efforts by members of the South African Police Service in Limpopo continue to yield positive results following the apprehension of 1398 suspects during joint operations conducted across the Province since 13 March 2022 to date.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 50, were arrested for various offenses that include murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, rape, illegal immigration, possession and dealing of drugs, theft of a motor vehicle, and attempted murder.
Illegal firearms, drugs, illicit cigarettes, stolen and hijacked motor vehicles, liquor, and livestock were recovered during these heightened operations.
In one of the successes, members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) received information about two suspicious motor vehicles that were allegedly transporting illicit cigarettes in Moletjie, Chebeng village in the Seshego policing precinct. The members spotted the two vehicles which then sped off, resulting in a car chase until at Mabokele. The suspects abandoned the vehicles and fled on foot. The Police searched the vehicles and discovered 64 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes with an estimated value of two hundred and twenty-four thousand rands (R224.000).
In another operation, the LHP Unit, members of the Capricorn Flying Squad, Masemola K9 Unit and Olivier Anti-Fraud and Corruption Unit operationalised information received about a business robbery that occurred at Ga-Molepo in the Mankweng policing precinct. Police received a tip-off about the suspects who were reportedly driving a white Nissan NP 300 bakkie and intercepted the vehicle at Ga-Chuene, Ditshweneng village.
Four suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the bushes however, one of them, aged 29, was arrested while attempting to flee the scene. The said motor vehicle was confiscated during the arrest.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers has commended the members for their tireless efforts in dealing with criminality and also thanked community members for continuously assisting the Police in the fight against crime.
The suspects have already started appearing in different Magistrate courts across the Province.
