Discussing Trichotillomania: Hair-Pulling Disorder

Trichotillomania, also known as “trich”, is a disorder that involves recurrent, irresistible urges to pull out hair on the body including the head or on other places such as their eyebrows or eyelashes. Do you ever feel an intense urge to pull your hair out? Are you experiencing a growing urge to continuously feel that sense of relief after hair pulling? Are you worried about a friend, family member or loved who may be showing signs of Trichotillomania?

Symptoms of ”trich” include hair loss, such as shortened hair, thinned or bald areas on the scalp and missing eyelashes or eyebrows. People who have been diagnosed with this disorder often have a preference for specific types of hair, and have rituals that follow hair pulling such as biting, chewing or eating pulled-out hair.
