Police are investigating a murder of a 45-year-old security guard, who was fatally shot allegedly by two men wearing police uniforms during an attempt to rob a Post Office in East London today.
It is alleged that on Tuesday morning, 3 May 2022 at about 10:00, two men wearing police uniforms entered a Post Office in Gonubie, East London. It is further alleged that the men attempted to have access beyond the security gate, but a security guard on site refused them access. This is when he was fatally shot. The suspects managed to steal his (security guard) firearm before fleeing the scene in a blue Suzuki Expresso.
Moments later, the getaway vehicle was recovered abandoned in Sandy Springs and a plastic bag containing a police uniform was also seized. Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the nearest police station. The information may also be shared via Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
In another incident, it is alleged that on the same day around midday, members from the East London Flying Squad spotted a suspicious vehicle, a silver Toyota Corolla parked near a tavern in Santini Informal Settlement, East London. On searching the vehicle, police recovered an automatic rifle with three magazines and ammunition. The four occupants aged between 36 and 40 were arrested and are due to appear in court soon.
