The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members of the Tactical Response Team and the local Police in Maake for a well-coordinated reactionary operation that led to the apprehension of an armed robbery suspect who had just robbed a Security Officer after collecting money at a filling station on Friday, 03 June 2022.
The G4S Security Officer had just collected money from Sharpville Poo Kenna Filling Station at about 17:00 when he was allegedly accosted by two suspects who pointed him with firearms and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money and a firearm. The suspects fled from the scene in a red Nissan Magnite with registration number KL82BH GP.
The TRT members patrolling around the area were immediately alerted to be on the lookout for the said vehicle. It was then spotted and a chase ensued. The suspects stopped their vehicle and ran in different directions. One suspect was arrested and others managed to escape.
The money that was robbed was all recovered as well as the said motor vehicle. The manhunt for other remaining suspects is underway.
“We commend the determination of all the members involved for their bravery in pursuing the armed criminals, arresting one of them, and recovering the robbed money as well the motor vehicle that was used as a getaway car,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
“We equally call on our communities to assist the police with information that can lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects”. Concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Peter Magagula aged 30 from Mamelodi, Pretoria. He appeared in Maake magistrate court yesterday, Monday 06 June 2022, and was remanded in custody until 14 June 2022.
