On Wednesday, 08 June 2022 members of the Benoni K9 unit arrested three suspects, aged between 25 and 32 years old, in Rondevlei (Delmas) for possession of a hijacked vehicle, unlicensed firearms, and ammunition.
The SAPS members were reportedly following up on information regarding suspects making their way to Gauteng from Mpumalanga with a hijacked vehicle. Vigilance led the members to detect the suspects on the N12 and R42 roads and attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicles; a car chase ensued.
The three suspects later abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot into the bushes, but were swiftly apprehended by the members. A search resulted in the recovery of three unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects’ vehicle is positively linked to a carjacking case.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Delmas Magistrates’ court soon.
