Driver hacked during a hijacking in Tongaat

A 52-year-old man was seriously injured after he was hacked during a hijacking in Tongaat – KZN.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to a residence in Belgate after the victim arrived at a relative’s home. On arrival, he informed Reaction Officers that he left his residence to purchase bread from a service station on Gopalall Hurbans Road when he was boxed in by an unknown vehicle.

The occupants got into his silver Renault Scenic and drove him to Emona where they hacked him on his head with a cane knife. The victim has little recollection of the incident however remembers disarming one of his attackers and grabbing the key to his vehicle. He drove himself to the Tongaat Clinic. He was receiving medical attention when he lost consciousness. The man sustained a laceration to the back of his head.

This afternoon (Monday) he was discharged from the medical facility when he drove to a relative’s home in the area to inform them of the incident. He started experiencing extreme bouts of dizziness before he was transported privately to the hospital. The victim was unable to confirm how many suspects had attacked him or the vehicle they were driving.

Blood was smeared on the driver’s side of his vehicle.
