The nexus between drugs and the illegal possession of firearms continue to plague our communities therefore every effort must be made to rid society of this increasing scourge.
On Monday, 13 June 2022, teamwork between the Anti-Gang Unit and SAPS Bethelsdorp members resulted in the swift apprehension of a 20-year-old man, allegedly in possession of a prohibited firearm. At about 14:00, Anti-Gang Unit members acted on the information of a person seated in a white Suzuki Swift vehicle in Eucomus Str, Ext 32 allegedly in possession of a firearm. On seeing the police, the suspect started to run. SAPS Bethelsdorp members assisted in the foot chase and apprehended the suspect. A Star 9mm pistol (serial number filed off) and 15 rounds of ammunition were confiscated.
In another unrelated incident, last night, 13 June 2022, Anti-Gang Unit members arrested a 28-year-old male at a house in Flanagan Street, in Kariega for dealing with drugs. It is alleged that at about 22:15, members acted on information and searched the house. A total of 261 mandrax tablets, two packets of cocaine, 2 cellphones, a scale as well as some cash were seized. The estimated value of the confiscated drugs is R20 700-00.
Both suspects will appear in their respective magistrates’ court soon.
