A teenager was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) shortly after he and his elder brother murdered a 21-year-old male during a heated argument over borrowed clothes.
Reaction Officers and RUSA Medics were dispatched to Iqadi – KZN after receiving reports of the murder. On arrival, Reaction Officers interviewed a witness who stated that both suspects were known to the deceased. They approached him outside his residence and questioned him with regards to a pair of jeans that he borrowed from one of them.
The 21 year old refused to hand over the clothing until they returned a pair of takkies which he lent them. One of the suspects grabbed the man during a heated argument and held him on the ground when the 18 year stabbed him in the chest with a large dagger. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot.
The witness provided Reaction Officers with a clothing description of the suspects and an extensive search was launched. RUSA Members located the teenager hiding in an outdoor toilet nearly a kilometer away from the scene. He was restrained and placed under arrest. Bloodstains were discovered on his jacket. The suspect and his elder brother were herdsmen and the knife used in the murder was used to sacrifice cows.
Reaction Officers and members of the community are currently searching for the second suspect.
