Ammunition recovered by JMPD officers

On 07 July 2022, whilst on patrol along R28 near N1 in Poortjie, south of Johannesburg, JMPD Operations officers were approached by a male driver, who informed them that he saw people dropping off items that looked like bags on the side of veld on the N1 South before the Sebokeng bridge. The male looked scared and asked the officers to go investigate.

On arrival at the said location officers found two bags of ammunition and four fully loaded R1 Rifle magazines.

The ammunition was seized and taken to Orange Farm SAPS to be counted and booked. A total of 560 R1 Rifle rounds were recovered.

Further investigations will be conducted by the police to ascertain where the ammunition comes from, why, and who dropped them off.
