14-Year-old kidnap victim located in Durban

A 14-year-old female who was allegedly kidnapped from Durban Central was located in Waterloo – KZN.

Residents of Lily Road in Waterloo contact Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at 12:42 requesting assistance after they located the female walking aimlessly in the area. The caller informed the controller on duty that the teenager informed them that she was dropped off in the area by two men who had kidnapped her.

Reaction Officers proceeded to the location provided and on arrival interviewed the girl. She explained that she was visiting family in Eastern Cape over the school holidays. Yesterday (Sunday) she boarded a bus back home to Inanda – KZN and disembarked in Durban Central at approximately 19:00. She was on her way to a KFC to purchase dinner before boarding a taxi home when she was confronted by two men.

One of the suspects produced a firearm and demanded her cellphone and cash. The teenager allegedly informed them that she did not have anything of value on her when they searched her handbag and located her cellphone. She went on to explain that the suspects became enraged after she lied.

They loaded her into the boot of a red VW Polo with her suitcase and drove around throughout the night. She was allegedly dropped off in Waterloo during the early parts of this morning. When questioned as to why she did not seek assistance from residents, the girl explained that she intended on finding her own way out of the area.

The grade 8 learner was handed over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation.
