Two pedestrians were shot minutes apart in Waterloo – KZN this afternoon (Saturday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the corner of Frog & Python Road at approximately 21:07 after receiving multiple reports of the shooting. On arrival, residents informed Reaction Officers that one person had been transported privately to hospital. A second victim who was shot on his left thigh and right arm was still on scene.
While attending to the matter, Reaction Officers called for additional backup after a volley of shots were fired in the vicinity. Medics were asked to remain clear of the scene until it was safe to enter. An extensive search was conducted however the location of the shots could was not located. RUSA Medics were then asked to enter the area and provide medical attention to then injured man.
His friend informed Reaction Officers that they were walking home when a white Toyota Etios stopped next to them. Three men alighted from the vehicle when the pedestrians fled in different directions. The robbers shot one of the men when he collapsed. They stole his cellphone before they sped off. He was treated for his injuries in scene before being transported to hospital by ambulance.
A second pedestrian was shot and robbed of his cellphone further down the road. He was transported privately to hospital. His condition is unknown at this stage.
Reaction Officers have attended to six shooting incidents in Verulam – KZN in less than 24 hours.
