A 41-year-old foreign national living in Parkgate – KZN was robbed by two Policemen in Durban Central.

The victim was in the vicinity of Game City in Stamford Hill and noticed two Policemen conducting their duty in the same area using a white VW Citi Golf. Both men had their firearms exposed and stopped several people and produced Police Appointment Certificates identifying themselves as Law Enforcement Officers.

They then approached the victim in full view of the public and again produced Identification. They asked him for a passport when they realized that he was a Zimbabwean National. He then produced a South African ID Document and informed them that he had obtained South African Citizenship in 2004. They then instructed him to get into their vehicle and accompany them to the SAPS Station to verify his paperwork.

The Policemen then drove him to the Durban Beachfront and demanded his ATM pin at gunpoint. One Policeman, an Indian male then walked to the ATM and covered his face with a cap, and withdrew R600 in cash that was in the account. The second Policeman, a black male then robbed the victim of his wallet, mobile phone, and a large bag of raw peanuts before releasing him.

The victim was threatened with death if the matter was reported. Fearing for his safety, the man contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance.
