A couple in their thirties and their 13 year old daughter were held hostage for nearly four hours while robbery suspects searched their home for firearms and valuables.
At approximately 23:49 last night (Friday), Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance after five men fled from the property in Canelands – KZN. On arrival, Reaction Officers met with a 37 year old male who stated that his family were watching television in one of the bedroom when the suspects forced their way into the house.
The robbers who were armed with knives and a pistol, confronted the family and demanded firearms. The victim advised the men that he did not own any weapons. The robbers searched the home for nearly four hours before they stole a large quantity of clothing, a TV, gas welding equipment, three cellphones and a large quantity of copper that was stored in a shipping container in the yard before they fled. The victims could not confirm what vehicle was used in the robbery.
No injuries were reported.
