Continued efforts to bring those responsible for destroying essential infrastructure to book yielded positive results when members of the Economic Infrastructure Task Team arrested a 65-year-old male for the possession of Telkom cable on Tuesday, 09 August 2022.
The members were busy with a compliance inspection at an identified scrap dealer in Mfuleni when they found 17 rolls of Telkom cable on the premises. Further investigation led the members to a farm in Stellenbosch where they found 500 kilogram of cable. The estimated street value of the cables is R50 000-00.
Once charged the suspect will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates court on a charge of possession of presumed stolen property.
In an unrelated matter members of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested a 49 –year-old male for the possession of a hijacked vehicle and an imitation firearm in Athlone on Tuesday evening. The members followed up information about a vehicle that was hijacked in Mitchell’s Plain and while patrolling in Athlone area spotted the vehicle.
The suspect is due to make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates court on Thursday11 August 2022.
