Several residents were displaced after their homes were gutted in a fire at an informal area in Canelands – KZN last night (Saturday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived at the scene at approximately 22:06 after receiving multiple calls from residents in the area reporting the fire. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered approximately 70 wood and iron homes engulfed in flames. The Ethekwini Fire & Rescue Services arrived shortly thereafter. Fire Fighters battled the blaze which was spreading rapidly.
The cause of the fire was not immediately established.
