A 16-year-old grade 10 learner from Siphesihle Secondary School was apprehended minutes after he and three accomplices robbed a pedestrian for his cellphone.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a called from a member of the public at 12:29 after a mob apprehended and began assaulting the teenager on Todd Street in Verulam – KZN. Reaction
Officers were dispatched to the location provided. On arrival, Officers were informed that the teenager and three accomplices robbed a pedestrian for his Nokia cellphone. They fled on foot but were tracked by the victims family who managed to apprehend one of the suspects.
During an interview, the teenager informed Reaction Officers that he was part of a gang of five individuals who were being sought for a spate of robberies. The cellphone they had stolen from the victim was sold to a female near the KFC for R450. He was found in possession of an Okapi pocket knife. The teenager is the father of a 9 month old boy. He was handed over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation.
Reaction Officers attend to approx four (4) incidents per day where the gang robbed shoppers of monile phones in teh Verulam Central Business District.
