A 22-year-old suspect was arrested and weapons used in a robbery were recovered on Onyx Road in Everest Heights – KZN.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were searching for theft suspects in the area when a 19-year-old male flagged them down. The teenager informed the Reaction Officers that he was returning home from the Verulam CBD when he was confronted by two men who produced knives and demanded he hand over his cell phone. After informing them that he did not own a cellphone they robbed him of his sandals and fled.
The Officers conducted a search and located the duo fleeing on Onyx Road. Both suspects split up and fled. An Indian male was immediately arrested while his accomplice fled through a stream. He is believed to be injured after he ran into a responding RUSA vehicle. He dropped a large knife measuring approximately 45 centimeters.
The suspect in custody was found in possession of two pocket knives. The victim, who is a resident of the Eastern Cape and temporarily residing in Verulam, confirmed that the suspect in custody was the same person that threatened to stab him. The robber is a resident of Oaklands Flats in Oaklands and is a known habitual criminal. A second individual arrived on the scene and confirmed that the same suspects attempted to rob him earlier while he was walking over a bridge on Himalaya Drive.
The suspect was placed under arrest and detained at the Verulam SAPS.
