Police make breakthrough in security officer’s murder – Kwanobuhle

Police in Gqeberha made a significant breakthrough in yesterday’s murder incident, in which a 22-year-old security official was fatally wounded in Gqabi Street, Kwanobuhle.

During the early hours of this morning, the Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combatting Unit (CCU) members in Gqeberha successfully arrested two suspects aged 20 and 34 years, in Humansdorp and Kwanobuhle respectively. The third suspect (24) was shot during yesterday’s incident and passed away in hospital yesterday afternoon, Thursday, 22 September 2022.

It is alleged that at about 09:00 on 22 September 2022, two security officers were busy escorting a bread truck towards Gqabi Street in Kwanobuhle when they were approached by two unknown men. One of the men drew a firearm and started shooting at them. A security officer returned fire and was fatally injured during the cross fire. The suspect also disarmed the security officer and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.

The 22-year-old security officer was identified as Christopher George from Arcadia, Gqeberha.

The two suspects are due to appear in the Kwanobuhle magistrate’s court on Monday, 26 September 2022 on charges of murder and possession of suspected stolen property. Additional charges may be added as the investigation unfolds.
