At 2.30 pm on Saturday the 8th of October 2022, S.T.A.R.T Rescue were alerted of a Cliff side Rescue just South of the Shaka’s Rock tidal pool. Reports received were that two people were stuck on the rocks and were unable to swim back due to the rising tide and rough seas.
Working together as a team, S.T.A.R.T, START Partner, Specialised Rescue Unit, IPSS Medical Rescue Search and Rescue division as well a CERT and NSRI pooled their resources together and it was soon established that the patients were two teenagers who were around 13 years old. The patients were accessed by a rescue swimmer and Kwadukuza Life Guards. Shortly after, the IPSS Medical Rescue jetski was deployed.
The teenagers were given a PFD (personal floating device), and were swum out to the IPSS jetski by the rescue swimmer, and brought safely back to shore where they were handed over, assessed and treated by IPSS Medical Rescue paramedics. Fortunately no major injuries were reported, just some mild signs of Hyperthermia.
