Ongoing efforts by the South African Police Service and other Law Enforcement agencies to rid communities of unlicensed firearms and the illegal drug trade, yielded positive results when the members searched premises in Bordeaux Street, Westridge, Mitchell’s Plain, on Sunday afternoon 23 October 2022 at about 12:30.
The members received information about a firearm and drugs at the premises and searched it. They confiscated a 38 special revolver with ammunition, 30 mandrax tablets, 23 packets of crystal meth, and an undisclosed amount of cash. A 58-year-old male was arrested and detained on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and dealing in drugs.
Once charged the suspect will appear in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
In an unrelated matter members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 29-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Teak Road, Bonteheuwel on Sunday evening.
The members were busy with patrols when they heard the sound of gunshots. They saw an unknown man running with a firearm in his hand, and chased after him. The suspect was apprehended with a CZ 9mm pistol and ammunition found in his possession.
On Saturday evening members of the Anti-Gang Unit conducted an intelligence-driven operation in the Delft policing precinct due to the ongoing gang violence in the area. The members searched premises in Schipol Street, The Hague, Delft and arrested a 14-year-old suspect for the possession of a 38 special revolver with ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are due to make their respective court appearances in Bishop Lavis and Bellville Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
