A 52-year-old farmer was attacked by a swarm of bees after he was shot at by suspects on his small holding in Canelands – KZN.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene at approximately 09:27 after receiving reports of an active shooting. While en route, Reaction Officers received an update that the farmer and his employees were being attacked by a swarm of bees.
On arrival, Officers met with the male who stated that he was on foot patrol with an employee when he heard two shots being fired from a high-caliber rifle. He drew his personal firearm and proceeded in the direction where the shots were fired from. As he approached a bee box, he and his employee were attacked by the swarm.
He added that he heard a motorcycle speeding off from the vicinity while he and his employee swatted off the bees. The man sustained multiple stings and received medical attention on the scene.
The RUSA R44 Helicopter took off from the Helipad and conducted an extensive search of the surrounding sugarcane field for the shooters.
No arrests were made.
