Creating a safer environment, especially with the festive season on our doorstep, crime prevention operations by SAPS and other law enforcement agencies are intensified.
This morning at about 10:45, two males aged 39 and 41 as well as a 34-year-old female were arrested for the illegal possession of drugs.
A quick response to information received from the community led police to a house at Surwood Walk in Hanover Park. Upon searching the premises the members confiscated crystal meth, heroin, mandrax tablets, and an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects will make their appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 November 2022 on charges of possession of drugs.
In an unrelated matter, this morning at about 08:00, Steenberg SAPS detectives were acting on information in search of attempted murder case suspects at premises in St Barnabas Street, St Montague Village, Lavender Hill.
Upon arrival at the identified residential premises, members found the two suspects laying on the bed. They conducted a search and found a firearm and 31 rounds of ammunition in the possession of a 36-year-old man. They arrested him for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Another male, aged 38, was arrested for a Steenberg attempted murder case. On further investigation, it was found that the firearm was reported stolen in Hermanus.
Furthermore, Harare SAPS members’ swift reaction to a hijacking incident yielded good results. The members were on duty when they responded to a carjacking that took place in IIlitha Park, Khayelitsha on Thursday, 10 November 2022. At approximately 10:15, with assistance from a car tracking team, they recovered an abandoned courier vehicle. The information led them to an address where the parcels were allegedly offloaded.
Members swiftly proceeded to the address and upon searching the premises they recovered the parcels to the estimated value of R10, 000.00. A 47-year-old suspect was arrested and will be charged with possession of the stolen property. He is expected to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court soon.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner commended the members involved, other law enforcement agencies as well as the community. Crime Prevention Operations will be continuing with the emphasis on bringing perpetrators to book and taking guns and drugs off the streets he says.
