A by-law blitz focusing on land invasion and illegal occupation of abandoned buildings led to the discovery of a body in an abandoned building in Crystal Park on Tuesday, 31 January 2023.
Before the discovery of the corpse, the #EMPD officers removed three people between the ages of 20 and 30 living in a council-owned building, where they gained entry by breaking the locks open. The trio was issued a warning that legal proceedings will be brought against them should the trespassing be repeated.
While removing the illegal occupants in another abandoned building, officers discovered the body of a man aged between 20 and 30. The SAPS were called, and the scene was handed over to initiate investigations.
In other by-law operations in Springs, several scrapyards and businesses were visited to check for valid permits and compliance with municipal by-laws.
Officers confiscated goods from operators who failed to meet compliance standards, as well as from operators who had invalid or expired permits.
