Conman arrested for perjury

On Saturday 18 February 2023 the police at Navalsig arrested a 42-year-old suspect for perjury. The suspect arrived at Parkweg Police Station and gave a statement alleging that he was hijacked from his Toyota Hilux. A case docket was opened but taken to Navalsig Police Station to be registered. The members at Navalsig reported the incident to the Station Commander who arrived at the station to visit the scene.

The Station Commander decided to initiate a preliminary investigation as the complainant still had his valuable belongings like his cellular telephone in his possession. A check conducted on Crime Administration System indicated that the complainant had opened a number of cases including those at Mafikeng, Harrismith, and Biesiesvlei Police Stations with similar allegations that he was hijacked.

The investigative instincts also made the Station Commander call Verkeerdevlei Plaza to confirm if the vehicle went past one of the points. There was no vehicle with the given description that passed through any point at the toll gate. The suspect then voluntarily admitted that he opened false cases in order to collect donations from foreign national communities of business owners.

A case of perjury was opened and the suspect was immediately arrested. The suspect will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.
