Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng swapped their boots for cycling shoes as they joined various other cyclists at Muldersdrift Primary School this morning, 01 March 2023 for the Xtreme for Kids Cycle tour kick-off.
In attendance was District Commissioner: West Rand, Major General Fred Kekana, Mr Johan Kruger (Business Leadership South Africa), Ms Monique Strydom and Lizel van Eeden (Matla a Bana), various other senior SAPS management, Gauteng Traffic and Emergency Management Services (EMS).
The first leg of the cycle tour is from Mulderdrift to Parys and will conclude on 10 March 2023 when the cyclists reach Cape Town.
This annual event is spearheaded by Matla a Bana (a non-government organisation) in partnership with Business Leadership South Africa, SAPS and various other stakeholders.
The cycle tour also entails a National School Safety Programme whereby various schools will be visited en route to Cape Town.
This morning, learners of Muldersdrift Primary School were delighted to a School Safety programme aimed at raising their level of awareness on various topics that include sexual offences, bullying and cyber-related crime.
Matla a Bana is ‘no stranger’ within the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) environment as it provides support to the police through continuous donations of comfort packs for child victims and child-friendly facilities.
