Police arrest a Johannesburg CBD shop owner for possession of suspected stolen goods

On Thursday, 09 March 2023, police arrested a Johannesburg Central Business District shop owner who was found in possession of cell phones and laptops worth thousands of rands suspected to be stolen.

Police received information about stolen cell phones delivered at one of the shops in Johannesburg CBD. The information was operationalised and the police raided the shop. Upon searching the shop, police found several cell phones, laptops, routers, signature pads, and perfumes to the estimated value of R300 000-00. The owner could not account for all the items, instead, he offered the police R2000-00 in exchange for his release.

The shop owner was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen goods, bribery and resisting arrest.

He is expected to appear before Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court in due course.
