Seven male suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) IIOC Undercover Reaction Unit for robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Jeppestown, Johannesburg.
On Friday, 28 April 2023, officers were deployed around the Jeppestown area after a complaint was received about suspects terrorizing the community, robbing them of their valuables, and committing business robberies.
Whilst conducting patrols, the officers spotted a white Toyota minibus taxi with no rear number plate and seven male occupants which matched the description given.
The officers intercepted and stopped the said vehicle. The vehicle and the male occupants were searched. Four unlicensed firearms with serial numbers filed off and ammunition was found in their possession.
The seven suspects were arrested and they were later pointed out by the complainant. They were all detained at Jeppe SAPS where a case docket was registered for further investigation.
The JMPD Acting Chief of Police Angie Mokasi applauds the great work done by the officers in ensuring that the suspects are brought to book, “We can not let our residents live in fear, and allow criminals to take advantage of the vulnerable, ” said Acting Chief Mokasi.
