Police Minister, General Bheki Cele and Deputy Minister, Cassel Mathale will this weekend deliver eulogies at the funeral services of two officers stationed in the Nelson Mandela Metro and Buffalo City Metro in the Eastern Cape, who were fatally shot whilst on duty.
42-year-old Sergeant Lwando Lawrence Bunga who served under the Public Order Policing Unit, lost his life while he and his team were responding to an attempted armed robbery in East London on Monday, 1st of May 2023.
Two days later, in Motherwell, Sergeant Mario Nel, a court orderly, was fatally shot by a suspect in the court passages whilst on duty. The suspect was arrested and the firearm he had robbed from the deceased member was recovered.
The Police Ministry wishes to pay its final respects to the fallen members, who will be buried on Friday and Saturday respectively.
