The South African Police Service in Limpopo joined forces with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders during integrated operation KUKULA conducted across the Province starting from Monday 05 June until Sunday 11 June 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe once again led Operation KUKULA at Thohoyandou in Vhembe District on Saturday 10 June 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner said that if the Vhembe District can reduce the case load the crime stats of the Province can be low. She further mentioned that everyone is worried about the crimes happening in Thohoyadou.
These operations were supported by role players including the several Sector Departments Community Policing Forum, Private Security and Business Forums and were executed through intensified roadblocks including stop and searches as well as high visibility and patrols at hotspots areas. This included raiding of liquor outlets, shebeens second-hand goods and tracing of wanted suspects.
The operations in all the five Districts resulted in the arrest of 1005 suspects for Crimes ranging from Assault with intend to inflict serious bodily harm (GBH), Contravention of Immigration Act, Violation of Protection order, robberies, possession of dagga and possession of counterfeit goods, public drinking to driving under the influence of liquor. During the operation, 4 notices issued for Second Hand Goods Act and 14 shebeens were closed.
More than 28 191 people and 10 757 vehicles were stopped and searched.
The confiscated items during the operations include; liquor, counterfeit goods and dagga.
Operation KUKULA is showing tremendous results and is proving to be effective in sweeping the streets in the Province of any form of criminality.
The suspects arrested have started appearing before various Magistrate’s Courts facing various charges.
