Committed to keeping their communities safe, police members continue to arrest three suspects on charges of dealing in drugs, possession of drugs and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Tuesday 13 June 2023.
Police members attached to Operation Restore deployed in Nyanga approached a house in Bristol Road, Brown’s Farm at around 18:30. The members searched the premises and confiscated a consignment of drugs and cash. They arrested and detained a 39-year-old man on a charge of dealing in drugs.
In an unrelated intervention the platoon was busy with visible policing duties when they responded to information indicating that firearms are being stored at an address in Samora Machel. They accosted the house and found an unknown man in possession of a 9mm black Norinco pistol with ammunition. The members proceeded to search the entire premises and in the process discovered and confiscated a consignment of mandrax tablets. The 24-year-old man was arrested and detained on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as the possession of drugs.
Meanwhile police members of the Provincial Extortion and Anti Economic Task Team conducted a stop and search operation in Sikina Street in Maphumelele, Ocean View at around 17:00. The attention of the police members were drawn to the fact the owner of a nearby Spaza shop acted suspiciously. The members approached the shop and conducted a search which led to the confiscation of a Mauser 6.35 pistol with ammunition hidden underneath a mattress inside the tuckshop. The members arrested and detained the 32-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Simonstown Magistrate courts on the mentioned charges.
