Suspects will appear in court for firearms found in their possession

The mandate of police members to create a safe and secure environment in all communities yielded positive results when they arrested two suspects in Lentegeur and Bishop Lavis yesterday.

On Monday, 19 June 2023, members of Bishop Lavis police were busy with crime prevention patrols in Don Road, Bishop Lavis when they noticed a male walking in the road and upon noticing police presence, he started running. The members gave chase and apprehended him. Upon searching him they found a revolver with ammunition, 56 mandrax tablets and six sachets containing crystal meth in his possession. The adult male was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs.

Meanwhile in Lentegeur, police arrested a 43-year-old man when he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol without a serial number and ammunition in Broadway Circle, Westgate, Mitchell’s Plain. The members received information about a male who is at the address who is in possession of a firearm. They found the suspect and searched him and found the firearm in his possession.

Once charged the suspects will appear in the Bishop Lavis and Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates court respectively.
